Crawford is aiming for Game 3

March
21

Jamal Crawford just got done speaking to the media here at the MSG Training Center, the first time he’s done that since undergoing surgery on March 2 to repair a stress fracture in his right ankle.

We don’t have a definitive timetable, but Crawford is hoping to return for the playoffs.

“Maybe not Game 1 or 2,” Crawford said. “But hopefully in the first round.”

That gives him a month to get ready.

Crawford expects to be on crutches and in a walking boot for another week. He’s just doing stretches right now, to improve range of motion. You won’t see him on the bench at Knicks games until the crutches are gone. They are too much of an obstacle with all of the activity on the sidelines.

What led up to the discovery of the injury remains very intriguing.

“I felt it for a while,” Crawford said. “I would say maybe two months. The last few weeks, it became unbearable, so we had to check it out.”

According to Crawford, he remained silent about the problem for several weeks because so many other guys were bouncing in and out with injuries. Crawford said it was originally diagnosed as tendinitis.

He didn’t undergo testing until an x-ray was taken after the Knicks beat Miami on March 26. A CT-scan the following day revealed the stress fracture, which required four screws and a plate to repair.

“Those were the first real tests, Crawford said. “I didn’t complain about it at first. We had enough guys down.

    Game 3 of next season?

If the Knicks indeed make the playoffs, what is Crawford going to bring to an overmatched team that is an under .500 #7 or #8 seed?

Fredweis…HOPE. or a clutch shot! maybe an easy basket for Eddy. less francis. A reason to rally around…I can think of a few other things.
