Since you brought it up …

We kind of skipped over the whole Rasheed Wallace ordeal. We don’t know whether Detroit is going to make wholesale changes, but he might become available. Do you want somebody like that in the lineup?
I mean, the guy’s a little unstable.
Wallace is also going to be 33 when training camp opens. And he’s got another $26 million coming over the next two seasons.
Nobody’s perfect, but is there anybody better suited to play alongside Eddy Curry right now?
The shennanigans might be worth another five or six wins. Wallace is considered to be a good teammate by a majority of players he’s shared a locker room with. And it’s pretty clear Wallace takes losing personally.
Can you tell I’m waffling?
Wallace might help the Knicks this season and next, but is he’s not the final piece. Isiah Thomas would probably have to give up some of the young talent he’ll need to make a more critical deal somewhere down the road.
It’s good conversation, but I can’t see the Pistons letting him go as long as Chauncey Billups decides to stay in the fold.
Here’s the list of players the Knicks are working out in conjunction with the Nets tomorrow morning:
Morris Almond (G, 6-6, 215, Rice), Glen Davis (F, 6-9, 289, LSU), Josh McRoberts (F, 6-10, 240, Duke), Nick Young (G/F, 6-6, 200, USC).

if we dont give up too much, i like the idea of getting rasheed for a couple years. hes the perfect compliment to curry, both offensively and defensively, hes got a fire that the knicks could use, hes a vet who unlike malik rose will get consistent minutes, and we’ll only have a commitment to him for two years.
pistons can take frye, robinson and rose for him. we have better young guys to build around at this point. Im not scared of his antics either. in fact, i think the knicks could use a little more of that kinda competitive fire. hes not gonna fracture the locker room unity, and im sure isiah would get the best out of him.
unlike with rashard or JO, we wouldnt lose as much for sheed, who definitely has some good years left in him. and a guy like artest is way more of a gamble in terms of the off court antics.
Sheed + Artest = Eastern Conference Champions
If all R Walace costs the Knicks is Frye, Robinson and Rose, you’d have to make that deal. First of all, his contract falls away in two years, leaving the Knicks with significant cap room (Marbuy and Francis come off the cap that year too), plus his competitive fire would be an asset for the younger players to learn from. The Knicks become a playoff team with Wallace.
Does anybody have a link or any information on which players the Knicks will be working out and when they will be worked out?
I’m interested in learning more about Belinelli and Fernandez. I wouldn’t mind drafting a Euro because I see them as being very hard workers eager to prove themselves in the US. They are more athletic than they used to be (Ginobili, Diaw, Nachbar).
I brought it up because i know that Detroit has to get younger. A new coach wouldnt hurt either. I tell ya, we give Isaiah a lot of crap , but I love him compared to Flip. If Larry Brown stays with the Pistons the past few years there is no way they lose to the Cavs. Mike , as you said , Rasheeds teammates love him . And if you watch him he never fights with the other teams, he never yells at his teammates. Its just the refs. And if you watched the series against the Cavs, Wallace was basically iced out of the ball as Billups played horrible, Webber is a shell of himself, Hamilton would score three straight trips and then the team would run isos to Prince for 10 srtaight possessions.Sheed, like Ron are two guys that you can get for 60 cents on the buck. And the Knicks do have some ” chips” as Isaiah says
From Contra Costa Times, on trade scenarios for Kobe:
To New York: You know commissioner David Stern would love for Bryant to land in Manhattan. The Knicks have a bottomless pit for a wallet—which means they can absorb unwanted contracts.
The Lakers could send Bryant and forward Vladimir Radmanovic to New York. In exchange, the Knicks could package guard Jamal Crawford (I’d take him over Stephon Marbury) and swingman Quentin Richardson along with promising young forwards David Lee and Channing Frye. The Knicks can throw in the $2 million or so in cash necessary to make the numbers match.
The Lakers get four good players, including two of the better young forwards in the league. They also get to dump Ramanovic’s contract, which has four years left for $25 million. The Knicks get the marquee player they need, and Bryant still has Marbury and Eddy Curry surrounding him.
I’m not saying this will happen, but rather I’m quoting this to show that Frye is seen as legit in other parts of the country. Here he is mentioned in the same breath as Lee as a “promising young forward” – he may have more value than we realize outside of New York. If you look around, there really is nobody his size, and his age who is as polished offensively. I think alot of squads would like to have him. I’d rather save him for taking shots at the players we feel will bring us to the championship round, not just the playoffs. If Rasheed can be had for some negligeable players, OK. But I think we still need to keep a longer view; we will definately not want him around in 2 years and that’s when, if we are built right, we should be contending for the championship.
Detroit doesn’t need cap relief (Dumars is a genius) but they are old. Rasheed for young big men is not a trade anybody really wants to do. So I could see it going that Detroit stays with him and tinkers. Without Rasheed they have no front court whatsoever (see Kennymo’s comments). So Dumars is probably content to wait for something really good to come along.
Pre-Draft Workouts around the league:

I want a Kobe Bryant Knicks jersey so bad.
I agree, if you can get ‘Sheed and Artest for cheap, do it to give toughness to this team.
nice starting 5:
Marbury
Q-Rich or Crawford
Artest
‘Sheed
Curry
There is no way any other team is doing any of the deals mentioned here. Any Marquee name is gonna cost us one or two of our top players, draft picks and cap space. Yes that includes Artest and Rasheed, the supposed undervalued players. It might be worth it for Kobe, but I doubt that scenario above came from a source in the Lakers organization.
are you guys out of your mind. its thinking like this that has gotten the knicks into the contract problems and loosing records that they’ve so wonderfully enjoyed the past few years. why would they, after everything thats been invested into Frye, Lee and Robinson get rid of them for30+ players like Rasheed and Kobe (who’s 30 next year) and only more high priced contracts.
Rasheed/Artest? Do you really think Jim Dolan would like to have either of them on his team? He got mad at Spree/Camby and the next thing you know they were both put on the next plane out of town. And they got us to the Finals!
If those teams want to get rid of there head cases, then Isiah has to include Francis in ANY package he comes up with for them.
We’re developing a nice little thing here. We don’t need to make these types of moves unless there’s a benefit to us. We’ve been bamboozle by the Magic (Francis), Spurs (Rose), Seattle (Jerome) and to a certain extent Chicago (Curry) already. Should we add Detroit and/or Sacramento to the list.
If they’re not interest in Francis move on, no biggy.
Draft another nice little player and lets continue to develop.
Brian, I agree with what you said about trading our young talent for over 30 players.
However, when it comes to Kobe….we have to make that trade. I would rather have Marbury, Kobe, Balkman, hopefully Sean Williams and Curry as the starting 5.
Lee should not be apart of ANY trade. He has all-star written all over him. He did an interview today on WFAN and he said his injury is all but gone, and he is working hard in the gym shooting 1,000 jumpshots and working on his handle.
That work ethic is going to make him a star, mark my words.
yes i agree tommy
Rasheed is exactly what the Knicks need, but no way will Dumars help Isiah make the playoffs next year. The Knicks are on the RISE and the Pistons are FALLING.
Artest is the most likely choice for the Knicks. Isiah had him under control in Indy, and Ron would love to play in New York. GO KNICKS!!!!!
Rumors are today that Artest can be had with a draft pick and an expiring contract.
I think everyone should be thankful for having Isiah…THere are a lot of Flip Saunders’ like coaches out there.
This will be the year the Knicks make huge strides…you just wait and see
I like McRoberts. Mike, are you going to the workouts? How did he look? Any chance he might be available.
Henry,
The deal with San Antonio was okay. Nazr was doing nothing in NY and if Malik Rose can teach Curry how to “pull the chair” out from underneath the offensive player in the paint, it’ll be worth having brought him in.
The deal with San Antone was better than OK. It was Nazr for Rose and two first rounders, which became Lee and Collins.
No Sheed. David Lee is our PF for the future. The issue remains making sure that the 3 spot is locked down vs everyone from lebron to gerald wallace. which is why artest would make more sense…but knicks cant afford that distraction.
My bad (Rose), your right, we got Lee and Collins for Nazr, Yea that was a good lucky move.
Rose’s is still a bum though.
Can he do the same move now for Rose, Francis, Jame, Jefferries, Frye, Nate and Q?
Wallace would be a great player to help transition this team to a playoff contender.
For all his malcontentness, Rasheed is a winner. I would think Rasheed and Isiah would have a strong relationship – being that Isiah seems first and foremost a player’s coach – and that would go a long way to Rasheed’s success on the court.
Further more Wallace only has two years remaining on his contract, and would expire the same time as Marbury, Francis and Rose, giving the Knicks an incredible amount of cap room in 2009.
I’d offer Dumars a package of Crawford and Frye for Wallace and the 15th pick (Detroit via Orlando) in the 2007 draft.
Moving Crawford frees up space in the backcourt for Francis, and moves Q back to the 2 from the 3 as a starter (allowing Jeffries and Balkman to get in the rotation at the 3). It also gives playing time to neophyte Mardy Collins in the backcourt.
Additionally Knicks will save a ton of money moving Crawford’s four years remaining on his contract.
Giving up Frye at this stage in his career may not be the best move long term, but you hope the 15th pick received makes up for that.
Fredweis, giving up Frye right now is the best thing for us short term and long term.
I was the first person on this blog to point out Frye and his weaknesses.
I said it at the very start of the season, all he has is a jump shot and he is soft.
Trade Frye and something else for Lewis or Artest.
WE NEED A 3!!!
We have the 1,2,4 and 5 positions locked up.
Lewis or Artest will transform this team into more than a simple playoff contender.
What else would it take to swing a Frye for Kirilenko deal (I am assuming Balkman’s value is too low still to be the center of a Kirilenko trade)? I thought we should have tried to get Kirilenko while we had Van Horn, thinking a Utah reunion combined with New York’s russian population made it a marriage made in heaven, but it never materialized. The Knicks have the pieces and Kirilenko’s value is low(er) now. Does Kirilenko fit on this Knicks team? Of course, Ron Artest would be better though.
Let’s put the AK47 to NY to rest…
AK’s contract is atrocious. Around $63 million at 4 more years? Terrible. Plus he’s soft and he wouldn’t perform well under the NY media scrutiny.
Artest on the other hand would come cheaper, is better than AK and his contract is better. $16 million over 2 years. He has a player option in his last year and would likely opt out for a contract extension, which I wouldn’t mind giving him if he played well and behaved.
I’d at least like to see what SAC would ask for.. I think 2 good pieces would do it. 2 + the pick would definitely do it.
Kirilenko? What are you thinking? That all we need another over paid player that can hustles but can’t shoot. We already have one, his name is Jefferies.
Big NO on Kirilenko.
There is a “we hear” item in the Arizona Republic that says Knicks have interest in Artest along with Miami. Miami is apparently offering Doleac and Posey, no word on what Knicks would offer. No idea where this paper ranks in terms of reliability of sources, etc…
Sean Williams
Looking through one site’s list of pre-draft workouts around the league, Sean Williams shows up only twice. To-be-Scheduled with the Knicks (prehaps this week?), and a June 6th (last Wednesday) workout with the Celtics. The Boston papers did not make a big deal out of his workout. So perhaps this means we are alone in our interest in Williams, but its hard to say. There was talk that he was not doing workouts because he had a promise in place with somebody. Who that would be, and how high he would go I have no clue. Perhaps if we look through the mock drafts, some teams with need for a shot blocker, and willing to take a chance (or with a history of taking chances) would suggest themselves. Have fun.
It is unlikely that this team could handle Ron Artest. That’s like dropping an atlas stone on a water bed. I wish it could work, but I can’t see Artest succeeding in NYC without a much stronger veteran team to keep him in line. He’d be more likely rip the team to shreds as presently constituted.
I like adding Wallace because in 2 years when his deal runs out, the Knicks will finally be under the cap. Another thing to watch out for is Gilbert Arenas. He will be able to walk next year. Obviously the Wiz can offer him the most, but if he does a power play and says that he only wants top play in the media capitol of the world, than the Wiz might as well get something for him. It has been heart breaking watching the Knicks the past few years , and Isaiah has flip flopped his theory on how to run the Knicks more than our favorite politicians. But we finally do have some chips to work with. Ans the East is an absolute joke
