You can’t teach size

The vast majority of you believe Portland is not going to ignore the old cliche.

Who’s going to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft?

Greg Oden got 46 votes. Kevin Durant got six votes. I’m guessing the results of the poll would’ve been different if the names listed were Frederic Weis and Ron Artest.

Face it, nobody’s gotten over that disaster.

Believe it or not, a lot of general managers seem more intrigued by Durant.

Isiah Thomas loves Greg Oden, but he was absolutely gushing about the player we all seem confident will be chosen after Ohio State’s former centerpiece. He’s got plenty of company. Of course, it would be interesting to see how many of these decision-makers would have the courage to pass up a dominant big man in favor of a perimeter standout with greater potential.

Anyway, check out the new poll.

You can write in anybody who’s not on the list. Back later with more on the Knicks.

you have to take oden with this pick no 2 ways about it

  2. DaVonn Jefferson

    No you don’t.

Oden hasn’t done anything we haven’t seen before in college.

Durrant is going to average 20+ points next year and it’s only going to keep climbing.

Who’s to say Oden won’t turn out to be a bust? What has he done?

Durrant was player of the year as a freshman. That’s never been done before.

I dont know…Portland would have a force in the Frontcourt with Oden….

The get Oden they are in the play-offs next year…

  4. marcus

durants the better player but wit oden aldridge randolph foye n possibly billups thats a title contender…..

  5. Gerry O

Unless Durant is Jordan Ill pick him over Oden. History taught us that in basketball whether in NBA or other leagues, that in a champion team there is always a good center behind.

During the Boston domination its because of Bill Russell.

Sixers became champion team not until the arrival of Moses Malone, it was a soso team when its only Julius Erving around.

It was Bill Walton who led Blazers to the pedestal.

Wilt Chamberlain always upgraded teams he joined particularly the Lakers.

Willis Reed made miracles for the Knicks.

Chicago’s quests were always credited for Jordan, but not until the acquired Bill Cartwright the wore rings. Their center may have lesser roles but in their plays vital roles were contributed by their centers.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar gave Bucks a taste of glory and was a major actor to the Lakers showtime era.

Hakeem Olajuwon gave Rockets glorious years.

David Robinson was able to give Spurs its initial triumph.

Shaq O’neal made things to happen in Los Angeles and in Miami.

Tim Duncan continues to provide his Spurs teammates championship rings.

Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Rick Smits, Brad Daugherty never had rings but they had impressed their respective teams.

Players in the mold of Durant failed to carry its team to number 1. Look what Garnett, Karl Malone, Barkley, Jermaine O’neal, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, and other forwards achieved for their teams. Larry Bird was able to carry Celtics but Robert Parish and Bill Walton were around in those years. Magic Johnson led Lakers but Jabbar was around.

I was one of the six that voted for Durant. I’m just not convinced that Oden will be as dominant as everyone else. I think he’ll be about as good as Stromile Swift.

Durant has an NBA-ready game right now and you also can’t teach Durant’s wingspan, which will help him defensively.
