Houston might help … a championship team

Are the Knicks ready for Allan Houston?

The persistent rumors indicate at least one party is hoping for a reunion, and there are some benefits to bringing the accomplished veteran back. He will always be a threat. Despite the chronic knee problems in past seasons, there was never a major issue with getting up shots.

Houston is smart enough to be effective on the offensive end for 15-20 minutes.

That being said, is anybody comfortable giving a player whose future is limited court time when it potentially slows the development of younger players like Wilson Chandler and Demetris Nichols?

Forget the roster size for a minute. Realistically, the Knicks are not going to contend for a championship this season. Eddy Curry is still learning. Zach Randolph just got here. The best-case scenario probably has them at least two years away from being lumped in with the favorites.

Does anyone view Houston as the final piece?

Getting a chance to come back and help the Knicks would be a great story. A positive contribution would certainly lessen the resentment inspired by the $100 million contract, but he’s probably a better fit where one shot could make all the difference.

What are your thoughts?

NO! That ship has sailed. Let the Lee, Balkman, Collins, Chandler & Nicholas era begin. The summer league was fun to watch a bunch of young studs flying up and down the court.

Alan won’t last, let him rip some other team off. He’ll be the first guy off the bench high fiving guys while he nurses some new injury.

He won’t cost much and he could be a positive influence for our main go to pieces in Zach and Curry as teams won’t be able to sag down as much when Houston is nailing 3s. Ultimately you want our duo underneath to get a rhythm down for tossing out of the double team and feel confident of producing a bucket out of a possession.

Of course there is all those contracts to figure out and you certainly don’t want to give up Nichols. Barring a trade Houston would be tough to find a slot for, unless Zeke is going to finally off-load James aka big snacks (and drop Jones and Dickau).

Without thinking about money and contracts, are we thinner at CENTER or SHOOTING GUARD?.........perhaps that is what it comes down to

  3. KFFL Says:

3 for 1 trade….say balkman, dickau, and jones for atrest..then release JJ(big snacks) then sign H20.

if zeke is about to make a blockbuster trade that will cost us some of our shooters like crawford and Q. then maybe that is the reason why the knicks are thinking of bringing him back right now..

  5. trains1 Says:

No way does Houston replace those guys, he’s 2nd string only, not insurance, not replacement. He’s more seasoned than Nichols and a better shooter than Jones. He’s a dose of good publicity when they need it.

That said, Zeke could still do the Balkman or Jeffries trade and change for Artest. I don’t think Crawford or Q is going anywhere…..

  6. OakLee Says:

i think zeke is eying someone else. not artest..

a player worth giving up q and crawford + +..

im talking about the possibility of acquiring kobe via trade.
and houston will be great coming off the bench if it happens.

  7. Ernie Grunfeld Says:

Unless there is a blockbuster involving Kobe (and Phil Jackson to coach) or Artest that creates a need in the backcourt—-Houston should not be signed. He belongs as a role player on a championship contender. The Knicks should stick with youth.

H20 has always been one of my favorite players during the Knicks good years but theres no reason for him to come back. No reason for us to get him to take away minutes from developing players. No reason for him to join and not have the chance to play for a contender.

Let me reiterate, I said NO, NO, NO. Do not give up any of my young players for him. If you want to BUY out James and Malik and cut Jones or Dickua then he could come of the bench to high five the player contributing. But other than that I said NO, NO, NO.

  12. Greg Says:

I doubt that Allan Houston can help the Knicks enough for them to sacrifice a roster spot for him now. However, his knee issues and retirement handicapped the Knicks: costing them tens of millions, tens of millions more in luxury tax and limiting their roster, helping to contribute to the Knick’s current state. When players like Houston attempt comebacks after medical retirements, or significantly limited play due to injuries or medical conditions, the NBA should REQUIRE these players to return to their former team for the veteran’s minmum or their former teams should receive compensation if another team signs them.

  13. Superjay Says:

Houston would be good on a team that need consistent outside shooters like Cleveland.

  14. Scott D Says:

The guy is only 36 years old.
Wherever he ends up,I have to believe that he could help.
It just probably took a little longer for him to heal because of his age.

  15. Mase in Yo Face Says:

    Let me get this right:

This guy makes a lucky shot against Miami and got one of the WORST all-time contracts – one that the Knicks are still paying for (figuratively if not literally).

This guy who was not effective in helping the Knicks win at all.

This guy who could barely play his last year as a Knick.

This guy who is several years older now and still probably has knee issues.

Why would we give him Fred Jones’ roster spot, let alone D-Knick or Chandler?

Let Allan Who?ston stay retired or play for someone else – PLEASE!
