Put on your game face

October
28

Here’s your chance to go on the record.

Maybe the Knicks will shock the world, or perhaps they’ll chemistry will fizzle again. Let’s put some numbers down to avoid the revisionist history in April.

Make a prediction.

Follow my lead. I’m a hopeless optimist, so the Knicks will go 42-40 and just barely finish eighth in a vastly improved Eastern Conference. There’s going to be a lot of competition for the last two or three postseason berths. I’m figuring somebody in the group—Orlando, Toronto, Miami, Milwaukee, and Washington—will suffer a critical injury and fall off the pace.

That’ll open the door.

So give me a record, give me a position in the standings, give me a reason.

Hit the keyboard.

39-43 is my prediction, 9th place and just short of missing the playoffs. I think the Knicks will start off slow at first, and pick up after the All-Star break, and will just barely miss the playoffs.

  2. Kappa

    44 wins, 7th seed

  3. marlonbando

45-37 7th place in the east.

  4. Ang

    43 Wins 8th seed (barely)

  5. Sergio

33 wins, 4th in the Atlantic, 10th in the East.

They are still terrible on D and commit too many TO’s.

  6. TRU

50 wins. That’s what hopeless optimism REALLY sounds like. Go New York Go New York Go.

  7. Nixluva

I’m the ultimate optimist and I have the Knicks going 46-36. I really like this team and when we get Balkman and Mardy healthy I think we’re covered. I love Zach’s game despite all the negative stuff being said. I think people are too impatient with the Zach/Curry tandem and they must remember that Lee is the most important 3rd part of that frontcourt. He’s gonna see a lot of time and as a result the overall effect will be positive.
I also love Chandler. I see him eventually taking Jared’s minutes and it’s almost a blessing in disguise that Jared is hurt right now. I don’t have anything against Jared, but Chan is a better player.

So hard to say, but if we can play like the team you saw beat Boston…43 wins. I’d go higher but you know there are going to be some rough stretches because players like Crawford are just too inconsistent and can’t defend. 43 would be a great accomplishment. Then I see us the 7th or 8th seed, and making to the 2nd round. But IF we can get it together towards the end we will be hard to beat in the playoffs.

  9. MJ

I say .500 41-41 8th seed with a 7 game series loss to Detroit, who will win the east.

  10. Al

46-36 Sixth in the East. 4-2 Loss in the second round to Chicago.

  11. JimL

I am sorry to say that I predict another depressing season from this crew. Major injuries. Inconsistent play. 30 to 35 wins. We need new management.

  12. ahmed

50 win season. Truly believe that this is the year things start to change drastically. I also think Thomas is gonna make another move at some point before the trading deadline.

  13. Miami Knicks Fan

Knicks are the Cinderellas of the NBA this year. 49 wins, good for 5th seed in the East, where they’ll beat the Cavs.

  14. mike

80-2. We only lose the 2 games that Stern fixes for the Spurs. :)

  15. steve

    43-39 8th by a tiebreaker.

  16. Adam L

43-39, 8th in the East. Toronto falls out because they can’t sustain their play from last year. Miami falls out to injury, and Orlando just falls out because they can’t improve last year’s win total. Knicks, Celtics, and one other team move in

Knicks start well, playing over .500, but then have a horrible showing on their first major road trip. They come home and start making up the slack, hitting the all-star break right around .500 ball.

Throughout the season the starters get bailed out by the bench who coming with tons of energy, lock down defense, and tranistion buckets. After the all-star break Eddy and Zach really start to click and bring home the playoff push.

Knicks lose 4-1 in the first round, but with all 5 games tremendously hard fought and very close. Can’t decide if Boston or Detroit has the 1-seed.

  17. dan

23 wins in 05-06, 33 wins in 06-07, 43 in 07-08? I think it can, maybe it can happen. The record would have been better last year without the injuries and if we had shown up against a couple of doormats here and there. I think Zach is better than Channing Frye, so, sure, why not?

  18. Rafa

Im with dan. 43 wins. 7th place. 7 games series against Boston.

    We win 4-3.

That will be major improvement, correct?

  19. anthony

believe the Knicks were closer to a .500 team last year and injuries to Lee, Crawford & Q at the same time down the stretch set them back.

This year has much improved bench, just look at Francis in Houston, replace him with improved Robinson. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Robinson start eating into Marbury’s pt. Add Jones, Balkman & Lee for energy off the bench…much needed for another starting five that won’t stop anyone.

    41-41
does that get them in? Knowing Knicks lately they just fall short of getting it done.

  20. JayBee

    Knicks 52-30

  21. JayBee

Knicks 52-30 1st in Atl. All effort team goes all out for Isiah. Wrecks the “Big Three” . JKidd goes down mid-season. Raptors fall down.
