Staring at the box score

I think Isiah Thomas is going to fire Dick Helm again.

Holy crap!

So the Knicks finally wind up on national television and they come down with a severe case of stage fright. It had to be killing James Dolan to hear exiled Knicks voice Marv Albert trumpeting a complete embarrassment.

Will it get a reaction?

“Patrick Ewing is rolling over in his grave, Charles Barkley said at halftime.

I have never seen a broadcast where they ditched the play-by-play and let the studio talent lob one-liners.

“He’s about as safe as me in a room full of cookies, Barkley said when the increasingly tenuous future of Isiah Thomas was introduced to the conversation. “If they lose tomorrow, I think he will get fired.

Something needs to happen.

Even if the Knicks survive Milwaukee tomorrow at MSG, somebody needs to go. And it doesn’t have to be Thomas.

Pick a starter, and make any deal.

There is a serious problem when the only thing separating a group that includes five guys who are each capable of scoring 20 on a whim from the most futile game in franchise history is a half-court fling by Nate Robinson.

Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph were dead ends from the jump.

And it sure looks as though Stephon Marbury is back to working off a different game plan. I just don’t see the Knicks staying with the game plan more than a couple of minutes anymore when things get difficult.

Stay tuned. The downward spiral is again picking up momentum.

I dont think i can take another game of this. I like to think of myself as a loyal fan. But i just dont understand what it takes for Isiah to get fired? This was humiliating!! My last question is everyone elses? How could this possibly get any worse???

I know, Dolan can fire Isiah and hire Denis Rodman to be team President, coach and GM. Or better yet OJ Simpson.

i live in orlando, fl. i am a transplant new yorker. i was going to go see the magic vs knicks game in december but i have decided against it. i cannot support this team any longer. they’re a joke and i refuse to give anymore of my hard earned money to an organization that lets a guy like Isaiah Thomas run it into the ground. the knicks used to mean something. now they’re a joke. this will only stop when people boycott MSG and hit Dolan where it really hurts: THE WALLET

  4. Chris F. Says:

How can Isiah possibly have so little shame as not to resign? I mean, it’s not as if he’s saving his reputation by sticking around. Hey Spike Lee, do something.

I long ago did the once-impossible and became a Nets fan. Don’t call me a front-runner, because I remain a loyal Islanders and Jets fan and became a Nets fan before they got Kidd. The continued level of incompetence and arrogance with which the Knicks (and Cablevision for that matter) did them in a long time ago. Make no mistake, I’ll still root for them against any team from outside the area, but the Nets have long been the only team representing the tri-state with any class.

We need to get rid of all the veterans except maybe Curry. We need a huge salary dump. Trade Marbury, Crawford, and Randolph for expiring contracts and prospects. Then let’s see a starting unit of Balkman, Lee, Curry, Robinson and Collins with Chandler and Morris off the bench. Let’s be a bad but likeable team for a few years. We have our ‘08 #1 pick. I think Isaiah is over rated as an evaluator of talent as well. I mean, it was the Celtics that had the prospects to land Garnett (and they did not even use the ‘07 #5 for that trade). Let’s do this thing right! How about Boston’s Thibedeau as a defensive minded head coach?

It is amazing that, 15 games in, I’m making these comments. It’s getting late early.

    Mike,
Do we still owe any future draft picks to any team out there? Phoenix?

  8. Mase in Yo Face Says:

Okay its official: these Knicks stink!

It has been 7 years since they finished a season over .500 – that is way, WAY too long.

I had a mini-pass in 2003-2004, and season tickets in 2004-2005 and thought, well, it can’t get any worse than this (shandon anderson, howard eisley, etc…). Not only has it not gotten any better, its become much worse.

Some caller to one of the sports radio shows said it best: “You can’t fake effort”. So that’s that. I have tickets to see the King on March 5th, but that’s about the only time you’ll find me in MSG this year.

I refuse to support Dolan’s madness any further. I am even considering the previously unthinkable: cancelling my Cablevision in favor of FIOS. I hate, HATE Verizon, but I want my Knicks away from Dolan and will do anything I can to take money out of his pocket.

Maybe Edward F is right, maybe he is wrong, but the effort to save the Knicks franchise has to start somewhere.

Has anyone heard from DaVonn Jefferson? I think we could all use some of his optimism right about now…

  9. JimL Says:

If nothing else, the Knicks must bring in someone to replace Isiah as GM so that a proper dismantling of this horror can begin. Who here things Isiah can ever make this team better?

  10. JasonP Says:

“Trade Marbury, Crawford, and Randolph for expiring contracts and prospects.”

Uhhhh…why would any team with expiring contracts and prospects trade those (valuable) things for losers?

A trade has to be agreed upon by both sides, remember?

  11. The Dude Says:

One day, I hope to root for a professional basketball team in New York again. I won’t hold my breath.

  12. Fredweis Says:

Isiah needs to do what’s best for everyone and just resign. Does he really believe he can get the confidence of his team back at this point?

Isiah, look in the mirror. It’s over. Step aside.

  13. Marc R Says:

Should Marv really be talking about anyone else as an embarrassment?

When the Knicks wear women’s clothes and bite a girl on the back, then he can talk. Until then, he should hold off a bit.

  14. Chris F. Says:

Marv Albert’s private life has nothing to do with the Knicks shaming an institution and a fan base that is bigger than them. Not to mention, as we know, Isiah and Starbury haven’t exactly been sexual innocents recently.

  15. dan Says:

    JasonP,
I do think someone would take those guys. Someone took Steve Francis, not for cap relief of course, but they did take him. If we let the contracts play out and lapse, and don’t take on more salary in trades I’ll be satisfied. I should have added “if we can” to my statement. It would speed up the process if we can dump their money, that’s all. Still, I can think of alot of teams that could use a Marbury, Crawford, or a Randolph in a reserve role. They’re not good foundational players but as a wing man to Lebron or Kobe it might not be out of the question.

  16. TR Says:

Marbury cannot be traded. With 40+ mil due over the next 2 years who in their right mind would want him.

  17. NYYFan1108 Says:

I look at it like a bunch of guys with fat wallets who don’t care about winning. The leadership comes from the top and if Dolan doesn’t care why should anyone else?? I am a very loyal fan and live in San Diego and buy the league pass just to see the knicks but this year my wife convinced me not to get it b/c she sees the disgust in my eyes when they lay down like last night. The team is compiled of all IT’s fingerprints so no more excuses. I say he starts Nate (PG), Jones (SG), Balkman (SF), DLee (PF) , and Randolph at center and change during the game as needed. This team needs a SERIOUS wake up call. I can’t believe the one and only time these guys are on national television they stink up the place. That’s why when the schedules come out NY is no where on the scheduled televised games.
