Does anybody remember Sister Mary Elephant?
“Class. Class. Shut up!!!!”
For some reason, the Knicks are getting awfully talkative. And it’s unwarranted. Quentin Richardson doesn’t need to be in Paul Pierce’s ear. The Celtics are 33-6 for crying out loud. Eddy Curry doesn’t need to be jawing at Kendrick Perkins following a dunk. The guy had a career-high 24 points before his Knicks counterpart started to get involved.
Eddie House knocked down a shot from behind the arc late in the game and seemed to have something to say to Isiah Thomas, who did not laugh it off. There was a long, cold stare in the direction of the Celtics bench after he called time out.
“I didn’t say anything to Isiah,” House said. “I ran back and got back on defense. I was really talking to myself.” So what did he say? “I can’t really repeat it,” House said. “It was something colorful to myself.”
All of this anger seems misplaced.
Forget about Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, the real difference between the Knicks and Celtics is the approach. Boston is mean from the start. There is genuine attitude on the court, real swagger.
There’s a far different personality in the home locker room.
“If we can somehow bring that out as a team from the jump-ball and not be so friendly out there, myself, everybody, that’s what’s kind of separating ourselves from winning a lot of these games, Curry said. “A lot of teams don’t want to play you when you’re out there playing physical like that and really asserting yourself like that on defense and on offense. That’s just something, if we can find a way to turn that on, we can be a really good basketball team.
• Stephon Marbury was on hand to watch. He undergoes surgery today.
• Richardson and Pierce did not hang around to comment on their little war of words. “They always compete,” Thomas said. “I don’t think it goes to the next game. I think those two, if they were playing at the YMCA, would battle and compete the same way.”

Got another trade worked out on ESPN trade machine. Last time I said Steph and Randolph Morris for Bibby, which works salary wise since Bibby ends when Steph does.
This time, its for front line help. Zach and Pau Gasol both have 4 years left for about the same value 13mil+. Memphis wouldn’t do that trade straight up, but maybe adding David Lee would get it done, and it still works salary-wise. I understand the desire to keep Lee, but for the prospect of turning Zach into Pau, how could you not be in favor of it?
Hey Mike, I was wondering if you had access to the right stats guy to check this out for me. Its something I’ve been noticing and wondering for a while now.
People always seem to break out against the Knicks. Multiple career highs, teams breaking out of a slump, a losing streak, whatever. Its been a theme over the past couple years. Perkins did it again today. Guys that just come in and turn into MJ all of a sudden against the Knicks. So I was wondering if there was a way to see which teams in the NBA have given up the most “career highs” at least in scoring. Shouldn’t be too hard to do with the right database, and I bet the Knicks would be up there.
If nothing else, it could be a nice nugget to add to a story.
Steph, Balkman and Nate for Kenny T., Artest and Bibby. Curry anywhere ( LA, GS?) for expiring contracts and a young player or 2010 draft pick. JJ1 or JJ2 for expiring contracts. Draft well in 08 and 09. Sign Lebron in 2010.
I disagree. The real difference is Garnett. Kevin McHale did a great job of rebuilding the Celtics.
The Knicks..plain and simple suck..they are run by a complete clueless idiot and until they replace him, cannot expect to go anywhere..what dirt this idiot must have over the owner to have not been fired already. This team is a complete joke and they are the laughingstock of the league. Oh well, I guess they can always hope for another Ewing
Richardson should be playing at the local YMCA. Why is this guy starting or for that matter in the NBA? Isiah the GM and Isaih the coach is not working. He has to justify his big contract signings. What’s the point of Richardson and Curry playing? The minute the second unit comes in, we make a come back, then we sub again, game over.
If I were the coach Eddy would not be allowed to play until he looses at least 20 pounds, or turns some of the fat into muscle. He can’t move. Everybody in the NBA knows this. All every team does is run a pick and roll using Eddy. Now either the point guard has a great game or Eddy man has a great game. Isiah will not admit his biggest mistake.
Also can we please end this Payoff talk? Please.
Also, I’m not sold on Beasley (Kansas St) or Jordan (Texas A&M) neither one of them impress me this weekend. I could be wrong but Beasley will not be posting up in the NBA and Jordan is raw. Jordan will take some time and will Isiah wait.
AdamL,
There is no easy way to find how many career-highs have been established against a particular team, but if you ask any of us along press row, we would guess the Knicks are indeed leading the league. It’s a frequent topic of conversation.
