The next generation
When you get a second, look over the rosters for the junior varsity game being played in New Orleans on All-Star weekend.
See any Knicks?
If you like the roster currently in place, that’s probably not a problem. Young players don’t usually get much time on veteran teams. If you don’t like the roster currently in place, it’s a pretty strong indictment. A team that has won just 23 and 33 games in the last two seasons probably should have at least one representative in this game.

In fairness, Balkman is good enough to be on the sophomore team, Lee was MVP of this thing last year, and Nate was on the rookie team two years ago.
So it’s silly to suggest that this is some sort of statement that the Knicks don’t have talented young players.

Trade we need:
Curry for Drew Gooden and Dwayne Jones (a throwin, hes expiring). That would make us a differnet team immediately, and Cavs need low post scorer

The Knicks don’t need any trades.
They should play hard with the team they’ve got and if they make the playoffs, great.
But LETTING CONTRACTS EXPIRE is the best move they can make.

If the Knicks can make trades that get them younger without hurting the cap, they should make them. The problem is that I don’t want Isiah making them.

All this JKidd trade talk even found its way into the NYTabloid Sports Coverage.
Both the Post and Daily News made reference to some statements from Thomas regarding acquiring Kidd and throwing Curry’s name around as part of a package to land him.
As a Knicks Fan (insert witless slight here) I wouldn’t want to acquire JKidd since the team already has the PG salary albatros of Marbury, plus Kidd wants to go to a contender.
I did contemplate an idea in how the Knicks could facilitate a trade that would get Kidd to Dallas and perhaps help secure themself players who could address some of their current deficiencies.
Here Goes.
New York Sends out the following players
Eddy Curry©, Fred Jones (G), Mardy Collins (PG), and either a 1rst or 2nd round draft pick to NJ.
Randolph Morris© to Dallas.
Dallas sends out the following players.
Jerry Stackhouse (SG), and a 1rst round draft pick to NJ
Desagana Diop©, and Jason Terry (PG) to NY
New Jersey Sends out the following players
Jason Kidd (PG) to Dallas
Either Josh Boone (PF) or Sean Williams (PF) to NY
NY surrender of the 1rst rounder to NJ will be contingent upon acquiring Sean Williams.
I will explain my post in a follow up comment.
Suffice it to say if makes sense in the ESPN Trade Machine.
Why a three way trade involving NY,NJ and Dallas.
Dallas want’s Kidd but won’t give up a young stud.
Hence parting with Stackhouse, Terry, and Diop will not deprive Dallas of its main horses.
Dallas will obtain Kidd and the never used 6-10-6-11F/C to address the parting with Diop to the Knicks.
For New Jersey parting with Kidd may be a difficulat task to facilitate, and also a partial consideration in any such trade would be the desire to reduce salary, acquire draft picks and perhaps with Curry acquire a post scoring presence that the franchise could use.
By Acquiring two drafts picks (possibly two 1rst rounders) NJ could build the franchise anew.
Fred Jones, and Mardy Collins contracts are up at the end of this season and would provide immediate cap relief of about 5 million. If retained Collins could be developed to play the point and is a good post passer for Curry he is a pure PG seldom used in NY.
Curry is a very solid post scorer, an area in which NJ is currently lacking.
Stackhouse can either be bought out or could be part of a possibly proficietn3 SG/SF rotation.
NY benefits in the following manner.
They get a veteran scoring gaurd that could relieve Crawford and Nate in the absence of Marbury.
Diop provides a solid post defender who provides some shot blocking and defense.
Boon or Williams are strong rebounders and provide energy from the 4 spot but Williams adds shot blocking, hence the 1rst rounder to NJ to sweeten the pot.

Again, Mike has a message behind his post. Bad records usually equate to youth and inexperience. In this case we have a bad veteran team. Balkman is good, but I can’t say he deserves to be there ahead of any of those guys. He was a late first round pick. We traded the higher choice. Lee making the game was an aberation. In that case, we got top twenty talent at #30. in getting Nate at #22 we also got better than average value, and if he had earned the minutes last year he would have deserved a spot. Still I’d trade either of these guys for some on the sophmore roster (Millsap or Gay) and both for others (Bargnani, Aldrige, Roy).
