Nobody’s going anywhere
Zach Randolph can unpack those last few boxes, he’s stuck here.
They were definitely on the phone, but Knicks did not make a move before this afternoon’s deadline. I’m pretty sure the news will be met with mixed emotions in the locker room.
Now they can play out the string.
It sounds like Randolph was being shopped the hardest. The reports are all over cyberspace already. Milwaukee declined. Denver passed. The players coming back didn’t match the points and rebounds that Randolph contributes, and there was no significant cap relief involved, so it’s probably just as well.
So are you relieved Thomas was unable to pull something off? Maybe you are upset things will stay the same?
Keep the conversation going.

I’m relieved but the fact that he desperately tried to make a trade makes me feel like his job is safer than ever. I hope I’m wrong. I hope Isiah’s stupid grinning face is fired after the season.

At least he didn’t bring in Carter. Things could be worse. I think.

George is right. The simple fact that he tried is proof enough that he’s here to stay for the long term. Really, it’s only speculation that he’ll be let go after the season… no source, nothing. There’s been 4380942349 times where we thought he should have been fired and he wasn’t.
I’m not getting my hopes up (Yes I am.. but I can’t help it).

I am relieved that Isiah didn’t make any more deals that will cost the team its present and future. When (notice I said when) the new GM and Coach arrive they can work to fix this mess. I can accept a few years of rebuilding as long we (the fans) understand the plan. The new GM needs to trade some of these bad contracts for draft picks and expiring/shorter contracts unlike with Isiah doing the opposite. I will root for young players that have heart.

I hate it!!!
hE COULD HAVE TAKEN PLAYERS W/ 2 YEAR deal, that would all exp w/ Marbury!
I hate to see Chicago rebuild 3 times during the last 6 years!!!

We should have traded Zach Randolph for a pile of BULLSH*T! Seriosly he sucks! At least it shows that Isiah may be on the way out(PLEASE?)

I kinda hoped Randolph would get sent somewhere. As much as his stats help this team, I believe the biggest cancer of all is his attitude. For the team’s sake I am glad everything has stayed the same. The Knicks need to grow up and play ball. There are way too many excuses and way too many divas in that locker room.
Sadly, Isiah doesnt have a grip on these guys which is another problem. Hopefully he’ll play the young guys and we can get a look at them for now but nonetheless, no news is good news.

At least we’re not in any worse salary cap hell today than we were yesterday. That’s something.
Question for the group: does this team, as constructed now that we’re past the deadline, win 25 games this year? I’m taking the under.

George, it’s true that he supposedly was trying to make trades, but—call me an optimist—the fact that none came down I think indicates his weakness.
What I’m hoping is that Dolan is not the dope everyone makes him out to be. I’m thinking Dolan is planning on getting rid of Isiah by the end of the season, but what better way to punish a guy who pulled the wool over your eyes by making him stew in his own soup. Every time the Knicks look pathetic, every time that their fans and even the fans of the other team shout, “Fire Isiah!”, he’s making Isiah pay for this mess.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a Dolan fan. I just don’t think he’s the dope everyone makes him out to be. Yes, he was fooled, but to quote The Who—“We won’t get fooled again!”
I think—I want to believe at least—that inside Dolan knows by now that Isiah is the cause of this mess. But the best way to deal with it is give the team the best chance to lose and get a lottery pick—which means keep Isiah as coach (I use the term loosely). And as an added bonus Isiah gets to sink—every night, exposed and out in the open—with the ship he torpedoed.

My Happiness:
1) At least we didn’t add V. Carter or another salary cap killer. That would have been a total nightmare – There is a sliver of light at the end of the tunnel, but with Thomas leaning closer to the chopping block with every 40 point loss,
2) It may indicate a tighter leash on Thomas than is commonly acknowledged. I mean come on already! I know a few people here on LI who have been laid off from Cablevision for much less than total incompetence, wasting millions, and legal issues resulting in a losing sexual harassment lawsuit.
My Grief:
1) If we are rebuilding and accepting a losing team (as this many losses would indicate), why not dump more salary and move it along. Expiring contracts is the name of the game and we could have obtained quite a few.
2) A motivator and leader could have been had. I believe the expiring contract of Artest could have been worth the gamble. If not, we lose him at the end of the year and shave the salary off of the cap. Worst case scenario is he kills Randolph, Robinson, and Marbury and we obtain serious cap exemptions next year!
3) We could have potentially made a smart trade that left us cap neutral but allowed us to collect additional draft picks.
So who are we drafting?

I’m down on all the Knicks right now, but, most of all Isiah. The mere fact that Jeffries still gets more minutes than Balkman. He just kills us with his rotations. He’s killed Curry’s confidence. The list goes on and on.
My thought is that a better coach can get this team as constructed to .500 (OK maybe that’s a stretch, so it’s more hope than thought). So, it sort of works in our favor. Isiah gets us ping pong balls by screwing up every game. Then someone comes in and makes lemonade with these lemons (or maybe it’ll be attempted chicken salad). I agree with JH914 that Zach is probably a problem in the locker room. I think he could net us something in a deal, though, because people are suckers for 20/10.

Dan – I disagree. The Knicks have gone through 2 Hall of fame coaches and a former Coach of the Year with the different variations of the same roster… I say its 50% Thomas not knowing how to construct a team and 50% Dolan’s cancerous Cablevision atmosphere.

More like 85% Isiah, 15% Dolan my friend. I hate Dolan as much as the next guy but he didn’t construct the team.

Honestly I am kind of beyond caring one way or the other, and that says a lot for a New Yorker like myself and long time Knick fan. I have supported “my team” through think and thin but as I have said before… Thomas and Dolan have done what I never thought could happen. They have made it so the Knicks simply do not matter to me. Sad right?
I look at the other teams in the league, teams that draft well, teams that make good trades, teams with coaches with a clue, teams with an understanding of the cap, teams with a long and short term goal and solid plans for both… and none of them resemble the knicks. Over twenty years without drafting an all star? Not all of that is Dolan and Thomas I know. Over 7 years without an all star? Hell I do not even need an all star but give me a team of hard working blue collar guys who give it their all night in and night out and I would still cheer for the team.
We do not even have that. We have no reason to watch this team unless you like train wrecks.
Turns my stomach. I am going to go ahead and pull for the Lakers or the Celtics, they each have a team you can respect. Ownership you can get behind, a GM who understands his job, and a coach who knows the game of basketball.
What do we have? We do not even have draft picks to make the losing worth while. HELLO! That is your reward for losing, way to give up unprotected draft picks so we can let someone else benefit from our misery. For what? Eddy Curry?
I could almost laugh.
