Somebody had to win

All of those empty seats became more and more obvious with each trip up the court.
I’m thinking a scene like that in New York would be a pretty good catalyst for change. In a hurry. Nothing speaks louder than empty seats.
Here’s the problem, I can’t see that happening for a year or two at Madison Square Garden because fans are still coming. The season was over a long time ago. Each time I do a fan story and work the stands, I’m amazed how many people are coming from overseas.
The place is a tourist trap.
Season ticket holders are passing seats along to friends and clients, who take full advantage of the complimentary night out and stick around for at least three quarters. And there are still families who pay a visit a couple of times a year no matter what the record.
What do you say about the game? Nothing.
Kenny Smith provided telling commentary on MSG in the opening minutes of the second half when he got tired of watching the level of play deteriorate.
“The first team that takes five good shots in a row is going to win by 10,” he said.
It was even less entertaining that a bad streetball game. There were a ridiculous number of possessions where the ball maybe changed hands once.

I am a big tim fan of basketball. The Kniicks are entertaining. I’ve sat through wost games in the history of basketball. What the nicks need is press relief. Without all the pointing of the fingers and clydes negative feed back the knicks would have been a much better club.
Let’s Go Knicks!!!
Yes, clearly this disaster of a season is all Clyde’s fault.
Clyde is the only reason to even bother watching.
haha, dumbest comment by a landslide!
Police:
I’m a fan of the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. But your comment about this team needing press relief is ridiculous.
Isiah Thomas sparks this caustic interaction with the press with his awful attitude, condescension, and outright combativeness. And reporters, while they might crave the juicy story, report what they see. And I think I speak for Knicks fans everywhere when I say that what I’ve seen this year has been a complete and total disgrace.
The Knicks would be a better club with stronger leadership on the floor, a true point guard, and an outside shooting presence that would open the lane for the big men. More importantly, this team needs a coaching staff that understands how to coach team defense, and foster chemistry. This team has no heart, and does not fight to win. How many games this season have the Knicks been close only to fade in the 4th quarter? That is a direct indictment of this coaching staff.
Don’t blame the media for this fiasco. Blame the owners, front office, coaches, and players. Their work is shameful, and disgraceful and we as fans deserve better.
Zach, Nate, and especially Jamal are shameless chuckers. Lee, Balkman, and Jeffries are scared to shoot, or have been told not to, or actually really shouldn’t. However, all that being said, I think attitude, lack of smarts, lack of hustle, and even poor coaching, all things that have held back this team, are not the biggest problem. Look at the Hawks. Look at how athletic they are. They have Joe Johnson. We have no one that good. They have superior length and hops as well. We just simply are not as good talent-wise. So, I think we can stop blaming NYK as people. We need to draft our best player. Now, I am all for getting a new coach and diversifying our roster, but I do think we have a squad that will fall into line and be decent role players on a good team. Hey, Zach is not going anywhere with that contract, so, get used to it. He just needs to stop whining and get back on defense or SIT! Ditto, Curry.
“We hove some really important games left to lose…”
That’s hilarious.
I’ve always abhorred the idea of teams tanking games to get better lottery position over the years. I always thought it was a gross disrespect to the paying fans for the players to not go out and give it their all. However, I now fully understand what those teams were doing. They were tanking to put themselves in the position to give their fans a better product the following year, since the current year was clearly lost. I had it all wrong.
Yesterday was the 1st time in my life as a knick fan that I was angry and totally disappointed they won a game. I realize I have turned a corner and now loathe the team in it’s current incarnation. I think they should go out and lose EVERY game they play. don’t even try to hide it. Dress 7 players a night and just lose. I think most NY’ers would understand what was going on and welcome it.
Mike…
We talked about you changing your picture and i’m dismayed to see it still on the page. Now whenever I read your column, I do so in sarcastic and smarmy sort of way. It’s a good way to pass some time at work. Fun times all around.
On a different note.
1) Is it to early to say Marty Collins & Randolph Morris aren’t worth keeping?
2) I haven’t seen anything from Wilson Chandler yet. What do you all think?
3) Are Lee and Balkman still untouchables?
4) Nate?
I love Lee and Balkman’s games, and I think they are great role players. However, they’re far from untouchables.
Nate is a streak shooter who can’t consistently get the ball to his teammates from the point and has trouble d-ing up on bigger guards. A good player, but again, not untouchable.
I think the jury’s out on Collins, Morris, and Chandler. Haven’t seen any of them play enough to really make a sound judgement. And on this team, how could you tell anyway?
Remember, it’s hard to get any value back for guys still working off rookie deals. They are worth hanging onto as long as possible to see if anything develops. Morris and Chandler still haven’t adjusted to the speed of the game at this level, but we should know more about them in two weeks.
The whole team but Lee was horrible this year.
1)Eddy came in out of shape.
2)Zach not a team player.
3)Jamal’s a Rucker Park player.
4)Marburry is a baby.
5)Q is the worst starting three in the league.
6)Nate is funny but not a champioship player.
7)Balkman had a horrible year.
8)Lee is a professional, improve his jumper he was consistent and he play hard every night. We should do him a favor and send him to a good team because this team is a joke.
9)Jefferis, what a waste of a mid level.
10)Malik, can’t wait for him to leave.
11) That’s enough of Fred Jones please, get him out of here.
12) Collins same as Balkman.
13) Chandler incomplete, but has to show more when he gets his minutes.
14) Morris I’ve seen enough not worth resigning let him go play with his boy Howard.
15) James same as Jefferies.
