Thinking ahead

There haven’t been a lot of days like this in recent years. After the baseball clinics and soccer games were complete, I got an opportunity to get reacquainted with my favorite chair. The remote control was in hand the whole time. I might have burned a calorie moving three steps over to the couch.

I clicked between the Spurs and Rockets, and watched a lot of Memphis and Texas and Davidson and Kansas.

During commercials breaks, I checked on the Knicks in Atlanta, which isn’t a bad way to watch these meaningless games. For the first three quarters, they actually played like a team with nothing to lose. We haven’t seen that before. Did anyone see Randolph Morris?

I believe he’s played all of 29 minutes in the last four games.

Anyway, since the NCAA tournament has provided such a welcome distraction, tell us who impressed you the most? And we can probably skip over Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose. Let’s think in terms of players who might be available in June five picks into the draft.

Did you like C.J. Mayo or D.J. Augustin?

Make a list, we need to do something to pass time.

I’m not sure if you are suggesting to move past the 1-2 picks because those are obvious or because you don’t believe the Knicks will be in that range. We definitely need to be more educated on the 3-5 picks but my hope is that the Knicks can make it to the top 3 slot.

    Memphis just shocked the Lakers.
    Minnesotta just shocked the Jazz.

Now things have gotten REALLY interesting.

We are now .5 games back of Minny and 1.0 games back of Memphis who we play this week.

Getting that #3 spot would double our current chances of landing that top pick. Knicks games are now fun to watch again because there is some light at the end of this horrible tunnel.

To answer your question, if we don’t land in the top 2 we have to go for the best player available. The consensus seems to be that it’s either Gordon or Mayo.

    Forgot to mention this:

Memphis and Minnesota play eachother twice next week.
Memphis also plays Miami next week.
Minnesota also plays Charlotte next week.

Let’s hope all these games work out in our favor.

what do we think of jeff van gundy coming back to coach the knicks????

O.J. Mayo is my #3 behind Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose. He reminds me of Chauncey Billups. I also like Jerryd Bayless and D.J. Augustin. Bayless reminds me of Monta Ellis and Augustin of Damon Stoudamire (with Portland).

I’m not high on Eric Gordon (too short, not good enough PG skills, not athletic/quick enough).

    Giaps,

You stole my next blog. The schedules could benefit the Knicks. Can you imagine the conspiracy theories if they hijack the No. 1 pick?

    Hollow,

JVG will never work at MSG unless James Dolan is visited by the ghosts of season’s past. He still feels slighted because of the way JVG left before things got tough. And while I like Jeff and the results he produces, he still believes 72-71 is an exciting game.

Mike, why are we skipping past Rose and Beasley? Do you think they won’t be available to the Knicks or something?
If you remember correctly, the Knicks are in perfect position to get a top 2 pick. Who had the worse record last year going into the draft? Boston did….and did they get the #1 pick?
Come on Mike…don’t let those Chicago Bulls feelings start to come out. Knicks will get Rose in the draft.
    Remember I said it.

    DaVonn

Welcome back! I’m not saying the Knicks have no shot at Beasley and Rose. I’m just assuming everybody realizes how good they are. If they aren’t Nos. 1 and 2 in June, somebody goofed.

  8. George from Scottsdale Says:

Mike, This talk of Rose or Beasley is silly, the K’s need a “shotblocker”. Their choices should be among Thabeet, Hibbert, Jordan or Lopez.A PG might be available in the second round.Collison and Augustin are clearly the best but should be gone by then.
