Why is Kenny Smith more qualified for anything than Ewing?

He's not. He has no business being interviewed. Ewing does.

I'm not sure on this one. Ewing showed real vision when he was Union pres. Obviously not stupid. He's had some good coaches and he has some experience. OTOH, he never showed a high basketball IQ or adaptability ((see the end of his career and unwilling to try any system (ex. Don Nelson) that didn't put him on the block doing his thing)). Nor did you really hear about Ewing as a team leader. We needed Xman or LJ or even Oak to call people out and lead. He should get an interview since Walsh should build on the historical assets the team has, but I'm not sure he's the answer as our next coach. BTW, his through the media requesting for an interview could be showing a prima donna attitude. Pick up the phone and tell Walsh you want the damm job.

I don't want Patrick Ewing as the coach here because if he does a poor job, you have to fire him and I would hate to do that.

Patrick Ewing DESERVES an interview at the very least. How they have disrespected this guy for all these years is totally mind boggling to me. No class whatsoever by the organization. Shame on them.

Mike,
Great job breaking it down. Here, and in your enlisting help from within thread. Hopefully, whoever coaches, gets the benefit of a better atmosphere courtesy of Mr. Walsh. If there's one thing he's proven it's that he doesn't keep bad chemistry teams together, even if it's to their detriment talent-wise. The Knicks need a team first mentality right now.
