Knicks Knacks

The unauthorized Knicks blog from Journal News beat writer Mike Dougherty

This just in …

May

You know those late night phone calls that inspire a shot of who died adrenaline? I get that same feeling whenever a text message from the Knicks buzzes in after hours.

Usually, it turns out to be nothing of concern.

After the vibrations subsided tonight, I read a message stating that Donnie Walsh officially wanted us to know the Knicks have not offered a coaching contract to anyone, contrary to a report. Of course, it did not refute a report about the organization preparing a staggering offer to Mike D’Antoni or anyone else for that matter.

So rest easy. There’s nothing to see. Go back to bed.

Why do I get the feeling something is going on behind the scenes?

I gotta say, this coaching situation has everyone on edge. I think that we really need to play it safe and stay away from a coach like D’antoni and talks about a 30M dollar offer. That would really not be the best way to go. I am not even sure why Walsh is entertaining the idea of even bringing him here. If anything, we need a disciplinarian with a plan. A fresh start would probably be our best bet.

And with no further due… my choice for our next coach is none other than Tom Thibodeau.

If mark jackson is chosen i wouldnt be mad about it i would just question his ability to handle this situation but i’d root for him nonetheless.

An offer may have not been made, but trust the Knicks to make the EXCAT WRONG CHOICE for head coach, pay him a boatload of money, and then have to eat the contract in a year or two, moving on to the next exact wrong choice. Sounds familiar right? That is the exact script that this situation follows.

What I’m not hearing in Mike’s statement above, is that the Knicks have NO interest in this guy. Reading between the lines here, they obviously do and that stinks. An offensive minded coach is exactly what this team does NOT need. Why don’t they just go and get Don Cheney to coach the team? He has the same coaching style and would come much cheaper.
