D’Antoni has arrived

May
12

Any minute now, Mike D’Antoni is going to find out how far $1 million goes in the Westchester County housing market.

We’re not in Phoenix anymore, Toto.

D’Antoni flew in last night and is meeting today with Knicks president Donnie Walsh to finalize the details of that $24 million contract.  I supposed the lawyers will get the last word, and then a press conference will be scheduled to announce the 24th head coach in franchise history.

Next will come the guided tours of the MSG training facility and meetings with all of the folks who are playing a part in the quick transition.

We don’t know yet who’s coming with D’Antoni.

Phoenix let him go without any stipulations, but Steve Kerr might want to keep some of the assistant coaches on hand to help the new sideline boss. It’s probably a wait-and-see proposition. The same goes for the assistant coaches Isiah Thomas left behind. It’ll be interesting to see how much input Walsh has on that front.

Just bring his fitness development team with him and we’ll be STRAIGHT :)

Isiah will insist that his guys, Aguirre, Suhr and Glymph, be kept on.

Who gives a s**t what Isiah has to say!!! Fire everyone from the Isiah era! The D’antoni era has begun.

  4. MJ

    Mike,

Any word on how Jax is taking this? It’s being said on TV that he thought that he was a shoo-in for the job and was already hiring staff. A statement or reaction from him would be interesting.

I think D’Antoni will be good. Unlike IT and LB he’s not, basically, a damaged human being. He’ll know how to talk to players and staff. I know he’ll adapt well to his talent. My only question is, could we have gotten the same thing at less of an expense. It’s not my money, so I don’t care, but it seems that the Knicks are, again, taking the opportunity to go for a marquee name with a big ticket price.

I trust Walsh, so, I’m happy but remember when the Knicks hired Van Gundy. He was a little known assistant coach, who proved to be a lot more effective than the more well known Don Nelson. Look at all the big names that have failed here. Is the priority making a media splash or getting better? Even if the answer is both, that’s a problem.

Knicks fans don’t want tuna with good taste, we want tuna that tastes good.

The Knicks need a top- two pick in the 08’ draft. If they don’t get it, they need to trade up to a top spot and get a gaurd. (Derrick Rose would be nice!)

Fire everyone on that supposed “coaching” staff because nobody on there can coach. From Suhr’s obese self being a bad example to the rest of the team and Aguirre not doing anything to help the big men(his “specialty”), they all suck.

I’m not big on D’Antoni. His style isn’t championship caliber and he teaches 0 defense. Also take into account that he is a non-confrontational players coach and it sounds eerily familiar to the people that have been here since Van Gundy(except Brown).

One good thing I like about D’Antoni is not since Riley we will have a coach that will demand the most out his players. We need to develop a nucleus of players. This years draft will be interesting. I can’t wait till the 20th and our ping pong ball rolls…

I don’t understand why Steve Kerr, who has accomplished nothing other than being lucky enough to play with MJ, has been given so much power in Phoenix.
