Getting back up to speed

Again, please forgive the absence of updates. It’s a busy month with kindergarten recitals and predraft workouts and Little League games all vying for attention. The calendar is getting manageable this week, so we’ll have a chance to catch up.
Let’s start with Stephon Marbury making another court appearance. He was on the stand yesterday, testifying about a leaky basement. Here’s the story from Jane McManus that ran in The Journal News today. Who are we pulling for, the athelete who’s going to make $21 million this season or the big money developer who allegedly cut some corners?
I’m anxious to hear what the powers that be thought of D.J. Augustin, who is the one self-professed point guard in this draft. While he’s just 5-foot-11, the instincts and intangibles are NBA ready. Did anybody watch him in the NCAA tournament? He was struggling, but still found ways to contribute something to help Texas win games. Augustin scores well enough to keep defenses honest, and he seems committed on the defensive end.
Assuming Derrick Rose and Jerryd Bayless are off the board, do you use the No. 6 pick to get a player you want or take a gamble and trade down a couple of spots?
Here’s a little news about Jamal Crawford doing good, and Zach Randolph doing the opposite.

Trade down.
Get Westbrook. If we can’t get Rose we’ll get the guy that put Rose on lockdown.
That’s the dilema Mike. Had the Knicks gotten “lucky,” something that hasn’t happened during my tenure as a Knicks’s fan, then the work of the Knicks’s front office would have been easier. But being that the Knicks nabbed the 6th slot, the same front office will have to prove it’s mettle, and earn their proverbial paycheck. Too bad after picks 1-3 assuming those picks are Rose, Beasley, and Mayo respectively the rest of the draft is mostly projects with noticeable question marks, and players who have a very low to no cieling for future improvement.
Orange and Blue,
It’s not the same front office. It’s Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni that will be making decisions.
Also, the sixth pick is a very good pick. There will be alot of very talented players available. I’m not buying the “there’s only question marks after the first three” arguement. People make mistakes with very high picks, see Kwame Brown, and find all stars as late as the second round, see Gilbert Arenas.
My hope is that we get a skilled and smart basketball player. I don’t care as much about wingspan or vertical leap. I like Mikes thinking on Augustin. I also love Love.
Someone tell me, can Anthony Randolph make a foul shot? I’ll need to find a highlight reel for him on youtube.

Randolph looks like he’s got an unorthodox lefty delivery. This reel is mostly dunks but it does show him shoot a little. His shot looks a little like Zach’s except his feet are not square. Better looking shot than Lee or Balkman but I don’t see him picking and popping. He looks like he’s got quickness but doesn’t seem that strong. Just the kind of player I would pass on.
Augustin is HORRIBLE. He cant create his own shot, hes slow, cant defend and is good at shooting wide open threes. If the Knicks pick him, the struggling will continue for a long time. Derrick Rose exposed Augustin so badly in the tournament. Westbrook is another kid that is all a product of hype. Hes 6’3 , a strong defender but he cant shoot nor dribble with his left hand. Gordon might not have the potential of Westbrook, however, he is ready to play immediately. I pray Mayo or BAyless slip to six. If they dont we need the Italian kid or trade the pick in a salary dump with Zbo
Salary dump in June? That is so depressing. Let’s get the best player available and go to war with a coach and a GM who aren’t psycopaths. There’s no rush to get rid of contracts. Those type of deals will become available around the deadline this winter (and next winter) as teams try to make a playoff run.
If we trade now, we should get Carmelo.
Best player available.
Also, since we’re reviewing bad officiating in past NBA playoff games – how about this one:

See – Charles Smith WAS fouled.
