You want Mayo with that pick?

June
24

I’ve had just about enough of this tedious process, but I’ll keep making phone calls in hopes of tripping over something. It just seems like teams are still piecing together draft strategies. Either that or a record number of executives and scouts are blowing smoke.

Basically, it’s hard to nail down anything beyond the Bulls and Heat.

I still believe Knicks president Donnie Walsh is looking to use the No. 6 pick to swing a deal. Minnesota and Memphis have been open to the idea of parting with the No. 3 and No. 5 pick, respsectively. And when names start coming off the board, there will be opportunities to move down and pare salary, as well.

Here’s my question of the day, would you be happy with O.J. Mayo if the Knicks can swing a deal? I’m guessing Kevin McHale would come looking to move salary or pick up a couple of young players. Would you part with David Lee and Chandler to make the deal go through?

According to DraftExpress.com, Brendan Suhr was in Chicago over the weekend to watch Mayo work out. The site also said Walsh stopped by to see Ante Tomic, a 7-2 project from Croatia, so either he was bored in the office or he’s in the market for at least one second-round pick.

If you happen to be in NYC on Thursday and wish to attend the draft, the NBA is placing a limited number of cheap seats on sale at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the MSG box office.

If the Knicks were serious about Mayo, would they send Suhr when all the other teams had bigger and higher-level representatives?

What’s up with what is being report on ESPN – Lee and Malik for Memphis’s # 5 and some bum on their team.

Can the corporate audience deal with Lee being gone?

And who will we take at 5 & 6?

  3. Starks4ThreeYes

No, I can’t part with DLee. Not right now. He has been the only speck of truth in this cluster@&%$ of lies. It’s not like the team is ready to compete for a championship and they need to deal Lee to get over the hump. I think it’s the wrong move for the franchise to start rebuilding by shipping out the only guy who understands what sacrifice and humility are all about.

Will Westbrook and Bayless both be gone by #6? I hope not. I really, really hope not.

Someone made the comment that Curry and Randolph will be worth more after this year. That was an excellent comment. They couldn’t possibly be worth less right now and they will both improve this season [if only physically] under Coach D.

I like Lee a lot but he’s going to cost real $ when he needs to be resigned. If we could trade him and get the 5 and 6 (or better yet the 3) then we could get a legit guard and Alexander or some other forward. This would help us with the Lebron Plan and we might even fill a couple of holes.

  5. Sergio

David Lee is not Patrick Ewing. He’s a backup on one of the worsr teams in basketball. Nobody will remember or care about Lee.

O.J. Mayo has a chance to be really good. You do that trade in a heart beat!!

  6. George

OJ Mayo would be a dream player to have. He’s going to be a great pro. David Lee is a role player at best.

  7. Starks4ThreeYes

You can’t win without role players.

There is no proof that OJ is going to be a ‘dream’ NBA player. Yes, he is physically ready right now, but that only goes so far. He laid an egg in the tournament.

If there’s a chance for the Knicks to draft Mayo, then anyone on the Knick roster should be made expendable. This is a guy who just might become a big star in this league. You have to take a chance here.

The word is “Rebuilding”. I believe management finally wants to have a plan to get better. We are building a team for 2010 and after. If we can trade Lee in order to build towards that goal, lets do it…and rid ourselves of some of the self destructing players like Randolph.

dlee is a great all around player. he has the ability to become even better. where ever he goes he def. a 6th man. i dont want him to go b/c we need someone like him, a hustler. oj mayo will not come to the knicks, and if he does we will swing him.

  11. MJ

Really. D Lee is a nice guy and all, but damn. People are acting like he’s an all star or something. Guys, he’s a bench player (at best) for one of the worse teams in the NBA. Sheesh, who knows if he will even be able to play in D’Antoni’s system? If the NYK can make a worthwile deal NO ONE on this horrible team sould be untouchable.

  12. Rileygirl

If Memphis is stupid enough to drop Cardinals salary and take Lee for the 5th pick, than they should be banned from the NBA. They give away Gasol and now this? As a KNick fan I will take it,however, I doubt it happens. Why does Memphis want salary space? No free agant would ever go there! If they can get MAyo, it would be tremendous. Run from Westbrook. He has no left, no position and is a project. Gordon , Bayless and potentially the Italian kid are better for now and the future.Mayo and Love or MAyo and the Italian would be a great beginning from the Isaiah years. Remember that we have no pick in 2010

  13. Superjay

I agree with all the people that say Lee is a role player. I don’t care what our record says. We are the worse team in the league. When you are the worse team in the league nobody is untouchable and everyone is expendable. Are we really going to resign D.Lee for 10 mil per year. I think not.

  14. Sergio

Yes, you need role players and hustle/rebounders like David Lee. But it’s not that difficult to get them. Heck, Leon Powe would also average 10/8 on these Knicks. Lee is so grossly overrated, it’s disgusting.

  15. Brandon

I don’t think I would trade that much to move up one spot in the draft, unless Walsh would be able to move Randolph. To me, moving Randolph will be the most important piece to move this offseason.

I also think with D’Antoni, the Knicks could be around 10 wins better this season. I remember watching games last season when the whole team would stand around and watch Crawford cross over six times and then throw up a prayer or when Z-Bo would eat the ball in the low post or try a few threes.

  16. Erik Sec. 309

There is not one player on the current Knicks team that is an untouchable. Lee is a hustler and a fan favorite. He plays hard and we love him for that. But, if there is a chance to get an every night play maker, we must do it.
