It’s not our money
No matter who the Knicks sign to fill in the blanks, money shouldn’t be an issue.
Who cares what it costs?
I know that overspending has long been an issue around here, but since Donnie Walsh isn’t throwing around long-term deals, it’s not a big deal if he overpays to get a player like Chris Duhon to come aboard. Say want you want about MSG chairmain James Dolan, he’s got deep pockets. Use as much of the midlevel exception as is needed to get a playmaker in here.
Then write a check payable to Stephon Marbury and move on.
Remember, there are salary limits and Walsh seems determined to get to 2010 with cap room to spare. He’s not going to sign a marginal player to a contract that might derail that game plan.
Duhon is apparently visiting Orlando today, and might be talking with as many as four other suitors.

Is Duhon really a playmaker though? He couldn’t start ahead of a white guy in Chicago.
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Duhon, LOL. We’re going to get shafted by Duhon. Man we’ve hit rock bottom.
Mike, say we do nothing for the next two years, some how dump some cap restrictive contracts and Lebron, Wade, Bosh and Paul sign back on with there old teams. Now what? What direction is this team going. How many more years. I think it’s so stupid to sit on our hands for two years. Signing bum like Duhon, for that don’t do anything and just play/develope the guy we have.
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Who said we are sitting on our hands doing nothing ?
What do you propose we do ?
go out and trade a bunch of contracts for some other teams problem ?
no thanks. hasnt worked otu too well in the past.
Duhon is solid. 4 to 1 assist to to ratio.
so loki, who do you propose we play/develop at the point ?
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I propose we develope Collins, Chandler, Rooster and play Lee, Balkman, Crawford, Nate and Marburry. Find me a mobile seven footer and let’s go. Running and gunning. We ain’t going anywhere anyway. Duhon what the hell we need him for, for that, keep Fred Jones. Duhon according to a few articles had issues with his own team. Beside Duhon, what the hell are we talking about Duhon. I feel like Iverson Duhon. We talking about Duhon. Come on man.
July 2nd, 2008 at 2:45 pm
And the contract we should be totally focus on, and nothing else belong to Curry, Randolph, James and Q. Don’t except another call from anyone unless they’re calling about one of these bums. They have to be included in any package we put together, Sunil.
Sorry but I don’t want to go through anymore years of 23 wins. 2 years wait hopping that Lebron signs with us, that so stupid. How much is Dolan paying Don to do something to improve this team and he decides to look for a back-up point guard. Where is my shot blocker?
July 2nd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
I think duhon is a better pg than fred jones and mardy collins
July 2nd, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Loki,
First, you can’t expect to move Q or Eddy Curry because their contracts are not insurable. Second, you have to get somebody in here to run the offense because handing the ball to Marbury is wasting a year. Duhon isn’t great, but in the grand scheme of things he’s not going to cost a lot and there’s a chance he might blossom. Collins was slow to come back last season after the knee surgery, but I still don’t see him being more than a role player. Third, you can’t make a bunch of trades without getting back contracts that extend into the future and continue this cycle.

Guys, forget fringe players like Duhon and Collins, who’s the core of this team that The Don is building around?!?Gallinari, Chandler and Lee would be my choices, add a shotblocking center now,and everyone else is expendable.Give Collins & N8 a chance in the Vegas league before adding salary.Marbury goes before training camp, he can’t distract from the new coaching staff.Crawford has market value, maybe GS right now, package him with Eddy.Collins,Chandler,Gall,Zack and Lee start,Jeffries,Balk,N8 off the bench, no D but consistent with Mike D’s MO. If no shotblocker this year, must draft one next!!Forget the LB,DWade, etc. pipedreams, they’re not coming to NYC unless there’s a core with a chance to win!!

Mike, Heat apparently signed Padgett from louisville and Richards from Davidson, any word on Knick signings??
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:20 pm
I assume you mean for summer league? They are pulling that list together now, we don’t know who’s on it yet, and it really doesn’t matter outside of the players already here. It would be almost unheard of for a free agent to make the final roster.

Mike,
Aside from cutting Marburry I say do nothing. Forget about seeing what Corey Maggette is worth, forget about looking into Josh Smith and Elton Brand. Forget about seeing what the center the Nets got from the Mavs that might want out is asking. Get Duhon and wait two years for Lebron to come in on his white horse. Yea, he’s going to want to play for the championship caliber Knicks. With all the free cap we have but no players. Yea that’s smart. Maybe Atlanta or Clipper would like to sign and trade with us I hear there is a big Market for Lee and Maybe the Clipps like Jamal.

Mike, I would love to see them bring in Jamar Butler from OSU,who won the MOP at Portsmouth and a shotblocker from anywhere, their defense is going to be putrid.

This is the trade I would propose to Cleveland if I were the Knicks. Cleveland would have the offensive fire power they need to help Lebron carry the load, while the Knicks take back old washed up players with expiring contracts. The Knicks would be rebuilding while the Cavs upgrade at the 2 spot and PF.
Cavs
West/Gibson
Crawford/Pavlovic
James/Balkman
Randolph/Verajao
Ilgauskas/Wallace
This would give Lebron an awesome chance to win a title. He would have a deep combination of offensive and defensive players that could complement each other well. The Cavs would have more than enough offense to handle the load while Lebron rests (which is what killed them in the playoffs). I can see Lebron averaging a tripe-double easily with this team.
Knicks
Duhon?/Nate
Richardson/Wally
Chandler/Gallinari
Lee/Smith/Rose
Curry/Jefferies
OK so the Knicks would suck hardcore, BUT it allows the young core to play major minutes and rebuild team unity and chemistry under the new regime. The bench would be filled with veteran players that could guide the young guys (and have contracts that expire). This would be a huge move that would place the Knicks under the cap a year earlier.

First time here.
Here is a trade proposal I ran through the Real GM trade Checker. I believe it would work out for all teams involved. It’s a three player trade between LA, NY, and Sacramento
Here goes…
New York …
Trades to LA Zach Randolph and Ronaldo Balkman
gets from LA Odom, and Mihm
NY Trades to Sacramento…
David Lee, Malik Rose, and Jared Jefferies
gets Mike Miller from Sacramento
Sacramento fowards to LA
Ron Artest
LA Fowards to Sacramento
Trevor Ariza.
Here is my reasoning…
Sacramento loses Artest who is not to thrilled to be in Sac town, and who is rumored not to be wanted in Sactown anylonger. They get a solid double double guy in Lee, an expiring contract in Rose, A long defensive glue guy in Jefferies, and a young athletic Wingman in Trevor Ariza from Los Angeles.
LA gets Artest the shut down player on the wing that could neutralize Paul Pierce, should they meet them again the Finals, They get a tough 20-10 rebounder in Zach Randolph who will likely benefit from being on a team with strong leadership, lastly the Lakers can groom Ronaldo Balkman as Artest’s defensive lock down heir apparent.
The Knicks in losing Lee and Randolph replenish their front cour by getting a versatile 4 who could thrive under D’antoni and a solid rebounder, midrange jump shooter and intangibles payer in Brad miller from La and Sacramento. La also throws in Mihm as filler who would be mor servicable than the big stiff Jerome James. By Acquiring Miller, Odom, and Mihm the Knicks get players whose contracts expire in 2010, and dump players like Z-Bo, and Jefferies whose contract extends beyond that date.
As I said before I checked the trade on the Real GM trade check and it goes through.
I hope the Knicks consider this scenario.

I do not think the Knicks will get Duhon unless they give him 4 Mill a year. I would love to see a trade for Steve Blake. His “O” and passing are under rated.

We’re seeing real creativity with the proposed trades, I don’t see any of them coming to fruition, but the effort and understanding is commendable. I agree with the Blake assessment, but can you imagine Blake and Crawford together defensively? Eddy Curry would foul out in five minutes.
