Now what happens?

July
4

Well, the Knicks did indeed get their man.

And they didn’t have to mortgage the future to land Chris Duhon, so I suppose Donnie Walsh earned his paycheck this week. The question is are the Knicks better off this way?

I don’t know.

A lot depends on what they do with Stephon Marbury, who’s got to sense he’s on the endangered list based on this move and the fact that Walsh admitted the organization needed help at the point guard position. Duhon at least gives the Knicks a capable on-the-ball defender, which could lead to good things. He can also make solid decisions with the ball and will allow Jamal Crawford to slide back over to shooting guard.

Let’s take a look at the roster as it stands right now:

Guards (6): Mardy Collins, Jamal Crawford, Chris Duhon, Stephon Marbury, Quentin Richardson, Nate Robinson.

Forwards (7): Renaldo Balkman, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Jared Jeffries, David Lee, Zach Randolph, Malik Rose.

Centers (2): Eddy Curry, Jerome James.

Walsh doesn’t have to release anybody, but I suspect he’s a long way from done. Even so, do you like a potential backcourt that includes Duhon and Crawford starting with Robinson and Richardson coming off the bench?

This is a good stop gap measure nothing more. Knicks need to shed curry and zach bad contracts. Try to get rid of Jeffries too. Buy out rose, marbury and big snacks. Try to get a draft pick in 2010. I like Lee and hope we can keep him. I would rather trade Nate.I hope we can contend again in 2010.

Please explain to me how you ask if we like a potential backcourt of Duhon Nate at the point, and Crawford Qrich at the shooting guard with Marbury still being on the team. By saying that you are essentially saying marbury is a goner, because if he is on the team, he’s going to play! So since you are pretty much saying Marbury is a goner, then where is your source? Give us something from outside of your and Isola’s brain that tells us Marbury won’t be here, because right now all it is is a bunch of biased comments put out there by people who clearly are against Marbury. Who’s to say that Nate Robinson isn’t a goner? Who’s to say that Jamal Crawford isn’t a goner? Please answer!

marbury is a looser.. pls stop talking about him..

i think this a good move (albeit overpaid).. brace yourselves for another 2 seasons of defeat :(

maybe we get the big prize in 2010.. i think zach for wallace and crawford/j-rich for artest (for cap purposes) could work

If the roster was set the way it is now I would not start Crawford because he cannot play defense. I would have to do Duhon and Marbury unless they do a trade or if they release Marbury then I would rather start Richardson and Duhon. I think Crawford is great off the bench against back-ups.

While I agree that Crawford seems like he’d be a good off-the-pine go-to scorer, unfortunately, Crawford’s numbers are significantly lower when he comes off the bench. Last year Crawford was one of the league leaders in minutes played.

Clues that Marbury will be excised:
    1) He only has one year left and his contract is too large too sanely make a trade (especially if we hope to be a FA player in two years).

    2) Marbury has helped bury the last two coaches.
Why handicap D’Ant with such a fool?

    3) Duhon promised a shot at the starting PG slot.
Marbs off the bench … yeah that’ll help team harmony.

    4) We’re not going too far next year anyway. Dumping Marbs would improve team chemistry and help D’Ant run his system.

I would just not have Marbs join the team, while a buyout is discussed. I’d think you could save nearly $6M, as some team (Miami, LA, Denver?) would likely offer Marbs a full MLE for one year. Since Knicks are paying lux tax, that translates to a not inconsiderable $11.5M savings.
If you can’t work out a suitable buyout, can hold his contract until the trade dealine, though I think that’s a dead end.

Marbury aint going anywhere. He’s not “tim duncan” a quiet leader and will never be. He is explosive, energetic, and still has 3 0r 4 good years left. I think people should be less worried about Steph in this new system and more worried about ZBo and Eddy getting up and down the court. Whatever the case..we’ve paid Mike D to figure this thing out and you can best believe he will and it will be excitement in the garden again! ( just hope that excitement is good enough to scratch the playoffs )

im wondering whats gonna happen to jerome james, malik rose and marbury? can they really help in this group right now?

Here is my 3 point plan for this year: pump, dump, and develope. Pump up the value of the players that we need to get rid of (Marbury, ZBo, Eddy, Q, and Jeffries) then dump them on teams that see them as the missing piece for expiring contracts or draft picks. Right now we are trying to sell at the bottom of the market so to speak which will not really help us. In the short memory world of the NBA all it takes is 1/2 to 1 full season to look good and a players value seems to sky rocket (for evidence look at all of the 1 year wonders who get huge contracts the next year only to fall back to earth [you do not need to look much further than the Knicks for how often this works, and not just with Isaiah]). Show case these guys then dump them. Part 3 is to develope our young talent and see who can play in Coach D’s system and who is not worth resigning when their contract is up. If the plan is for 2010 we need to stop trying to rush things (selling at the bottom right now). Instead we need to get as much value for our assets as we can with 2010 in view.

marbury is a looser.. pls stop talking about him..”

You’d think a “Jedi” could actually spell the word “loser”. Oh well.

As Stephon Marbury is currently the biggest cancer in New York sports (now that the fake captain Jaromir Jagr is gone), he will continue to wear a bullseye. Get used to it. Carlos Delgado was getting pretty close though. But, since he’s gone on this current streak of his, it’s nothing but Starbury.

This team can go several ways:

    1) Pretend to play everyone and dump them as soon as you can to a desperate team needing something that they need.

    2) Dump all the trash now at whatever price you can get.

    3) Play the young guys and leave the terrible vets on the bench

    4) Play your vets and hope they pretend to be a team.

This team has too many players who have never played well. If you look at the slots proposed by Mike you do not have a legit center nor a SF.

We are heavy on PF and SG courtesy of the former GM.

I think they should dump as many players as they can and bring in young guys who the coach can mold. You will lose a lot, but you are building for the future anyway. Pretending to win now won’t help you 3 or 4 years down the line.

Getting rid of Marbury is step one. He should be followed by Zach who should be relatively easy to unload. Curry and James will be harder but they have to go.
