What’s the point?

October
21

I beg to differ.

Mike D’Antoni wants the Knicks to give an honest effort on the defensive end. Great. That’s a big part of the equation because it’s hard to score 150 points in this league.

I know we’re not supposed to read into the lineup changes.

Still, how do you preach stops then create mismatches all over the court that favor the Celtics? Look what happened. Boston was in the bonus in less than six minutes.

That’s a great way to get Malik Rose a lot of time.

Chris Duhon, Nate Robinson, Stephon Marbury, Wilson Chandler and David Lee? I’m guessing that group will not be starting next Wednesday in the season opener. There must be a better way to go.

So the ball’s in your court, give me a workable five to open the season.

When you start posting a blog that’s more than 20 words and actually shows some passion for basketball, I’ll give you a workable 5 to start for the knicks. Seriously, if you never have anything thoughtful to say, why are you covering basketball?

I was at the game tonight expecting to see the new look.

    No….there was no crisp passing.

    No fast break points

    No team work

    No seven seconds

it was all dribble from the top of the key one on one playground
with Nate in the Jamal role

    it stunk!!!

and I dont want to see Rose in the game. id rather see Eddie getting into shape.

    It was garbage

    My Starting 5
    Duhon
    Marbury
    Chandler
    Randolph
    Lee

    Off the bench
    Nate
    Gallo (When healthy)
    Jeffries (When healthy)
    Collins

    Sitting on the bench
    Ewing
    Roberson
    Grunfeld

    Out of Town
    Curry
    Crawford
    Q
    James

    My Starting Lineup
    PG: Chris Duhon
    SG: Stephon Marbury
    SF: Quentin Richardson
    PF: David Lee
    C: Zach Randolph

The offensive attack would be pretty balanced with Duhon, Marbury, and Richardson all capable of being spot-up shooters. Marbury and Randolph are your two all-around offensive talents that can score in a multitude of ways. Lee would get his points without having any plays called for him.

Eventually, Richardson has to turn it on. I think with Marbury’s drive and kick, it gives Richardson good looks from the 3-point line.

Crawford has been extremely passive the entire pre-season. One thing about the Suns under D’Antoni was that you could usually count on the starting lineup to be very aggressive from the get-go. Off the bench, I would have Crawford as the playmaker with Robinson as the primary scorer.

The Knicks see Chandler as a PF rather than a SF. Therefore, I can’t see Chandler starting at SF anytime soon. Also, putting Chandler at SF would leave us without a decent back-up for Lee or Randolph.

Gallinari concerns me because he is still feeling pain in his back. However, if he can shoot the lights out, we need him to play in the worst way.

If you don’t like it, don’t read it dude.

    Nate
    Steph
    Chandler
    Zach
    Lee

it’s true, crawford is playing like crap. but we played so well in all of those games with that starting lineup… why move away from it? just get Q out because he sucks.

    Duhon
    Crawford
    Chandler
    Lee
    Randolph

    Nate
    Marbury
    Gallinari
    Collins or Jeffries.

  7. swc

    i agree with Preco…
Why meddle with what was working?

    Duhon
    Craw
    Chandler
    Lee
    ZBO

  8. swc

However…I do think that if Crawford continues to sh|t the bed on the court, then Marbury should take his spot…but I would have given it a few more tries at least. But what do I know…

one bad game and you go complaining? come on, isn’t it still preseason? This game is hardly a big deal. All we truly found out is that we wont beat elite teams – which everyone knew we wouldn’t do. If you’re worried about a lineup then look back to the games where randolph started. Besides, wasn’t that what we were excited about? The overall play and cohesion between lee and z-bo.

If you REALLY want something constructive to write, then let me know more about Chandler. Hows his knee? Is this a serious injury? Should he be back for the start of the season? Because if he’s not, then we’re in real trouble.

Looking forward to having you back full time Mike.

Lots of good things that were happening seemed to have stopped happening last night but we’ll chalk it up to Mike D experimenting. The Stephon as a 3 experiment obviously failed.

I think we are going to be able to beat some teams this year, but probably not the Celtics (DRAT!)

Anyway, I don’t mind the normal starting line up that D’Antoni has been featuring. I might like to see Chandler in for Q but as long as Wilson gets plenty of burn I’m fine. Plus, Q, apparently has been draining 3s in practice, so, maybe we’ll see it in games. I think he’ll bounce back from last season. I’m not worried about Crawford. He’ll be good in D’Antoni’s system because he won’t be allowed to dominate the ball, ditto Zach.

Why is Chandler all of a sudden a 4? D’Antoni has said he can guard 4 positions. I see him as a 3.

The Knicks have a pretty deep team. When you think that Robinson, Chandler, Steph and Curry will be coming off the bench, that’s a lot of fire power. Maybe we’ll get something from Gallo as well.

Steph getting into it with Eddie House was embarrassing. Dude, he won a championship last year! Shut your mouth. Meanwhile he’s looked good and the team seems to be accepting him from what I can see.

  11. fridayjones

I couldn’t agree more Dan. Marbury needs to shut his mouth and play when called upon. Dude is a freakin’ circus. His act is so tired.

I think before long you’ll see Chandler in there for QRich as the starter, either on merit or when we get to the inevitable back flare-up for Q.

Last night’s exhibition was a train wreck, and obviously not a 5 you’ll see on the floor together any time this season.

Best thing about Coach D so far: Curry won’t be in the rotation. It’s an enormous thing, and a sign of culture change with new floor management. It doesn’t matter how big your contract is if you’re fat, lazy, out of shape and indifferent.

looking forward for more information about this. thanks for sharing. Eugene

I saw that in the Times today too. That is the big story of the day (no pun intended). Eddy looks like Shaq now and he’s like 26 (too tired to look it up). How old is he? Actually he looks worse than Shaq now. He looks like Stanley Roberts. Is that the guys name? I’m too tired to look it up. Good night!

I love it! Looks like Nate is not only killing em on the court, but also in the locker room.

  15. Big Blue

Seems Houston and Grunfeld have been cut but Houston will be with the organization as a special assistant to D’Antoni.

    My startting 5:
    G-Duhon
    G-Marbury
    F-Chandler
    F-Randolph
    C- Lee

Crawford has showen that he is much more effective off the bench.

    Bench:
    G-Crawford
    G-Nate
    F-Gallo
    F- Quentin
    C- Curry

    Question Marks:
    Jeffries
    Collins
    Rose
    Jerome

  16. C-Smoov

    STARTERS
PG DUHON (no Steve Nash, but no Scarbury either)
SG CRAWFORD (remember the last time the Knicks went with two PGs in the same everyday lineup?)
SF CHANDLER (worthy of chance Isiah never gave him; adds athleticism to lineup)
    PF LEE (FINALLY starts)
C Z-BO (better him than overweight Chicken Curry)

    BENCH
G NATEROB (continues maturing under Coach D)
G SCARBURY (look for big year in contract season)
F Q-RICH (veteran scoring useful on the bench)
F EWING JR. (adds wing athleticism; D-League once Jeffries/Gallinari recover)
C CHICKEN CURRY (get in shape fat-ass)
F ROSE (should be assistant coach once Jeffries and Gallinari recover)
G ROBERSON (at least he’s not mardy collins)

    IR
F JEFFRIES (Coach D’s buggin’ if he thinks this awkward-ass scrub is the next Boris Diaw)
C JAMES aka BIG SNACKS (should really be nowhere near MSG)
    G COLLINS (see Big Snacks)

    D-LEAGUE
F GALLINARI (will do well under Coach D once he recovers, whenever that is)

  17. C-Smoov

EDIT: don’t send Pat Jr. to D-League

  18. C-Smoov

EDIT: no need to send Pat Jr. to the D-League once the injuries heal
