Battle of the Centers

Davis is averaging 16 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, but he’s really been considerably above or below those averages. He has three games of 21, 213 and most recently 28 points. In three others, he’s scored eight points apiece. Rebounding follows a similar pattern for Davis.
As far as Chandler goes, he’s been very good, but also below the level he played at last year for the Knicks and the year before for the Mavericks. The field goal percentage is 59.2 percent, but that’s down from 67.9 percent last year and 65.4 percent the year before. He’s grabbing 15.8 percent of his rebound chances, down from 17.2 last year and 19.7 the year before. And so on- he’s been very good, just not quite performing at the same level. That knee injury that caused him to leave the final exhibition game could be a culprit, though he’ll never say. But it bears watching.
It seems sacrilegious to be concerned about Tyson Chandler, who has been consistently at this very good level. But it will be fascinating to see him battle Davis, whose athleticism could give him (and everybody else in the league) problems.
Also: prepare to welcome Ryan Anderson back into your lives.
