Can We Just Say… Nothing?

Much of the speculation around the return of Jeremy Lin to Madison Square Garden Monday night has been about how he’s received.
Al Iannzone, the Knicks’ beat reporter for Newsday, seemed to endorse a cheer at intro s, followed by booing every time he touches the ball. Who is he, someone who married a Kardashian or happens to be named Isiah Thomas?
Here’s my suggestion, not that it matters: cheer Lin for last season at intros. And then, during the game… root for the Knicks.
Why many of us feel the need to constantly weigh in on things, I couldn’t say. All the sports television geared around taking a side, the more extreme the better? A proliferation of online polls, and social media in general as a means to express ourselves, a basically constant microphone thrust in front of all of us? Maybe. That’s a bigger discussion.
But the Knicks are 18-5. This season’s success has meant the presence/absence of Jeremy Lin simply hasn’t defined the team’s season so far. In fact, to an extent that shocks me, it has had basically nothing to do with their season so far.
So welcome back, Jeremy Lin. And then maybe enjoy the title contenders who still play at Madison Square Garden every night.
More later from actual MSG.
