It’s On You, Marcus Camby

Terrible news out of Knicks practice this morning: Rasheed Wallace, who was quite effective in 20 games before getting sidelined with a sore left foot, has a fracture in that foot requiring surgery. He’ll be out at least eight weeks, which takes the Knicks through round one of the playoffs.
Wallace was one of the two Tyson Chandler insurance plans; really, Marcus Camby is the only other one. They recently signed Kenyon Martin, but the problem with Martin as Chandler’s primary backup is twofold. For one thing, he’s more power forward than center. For another, he was largely ineffective last year, and hasn’t played this year. So he might be available, just not a better fit for the role than, say, Kurt Thomas.
The Knicks were a better team with Wallace on the court, a strong defensive presence who could also score. It isn’t shocking that a guy two years retired only gave the Knicks 20 games. But it is a difficult reality to accept when his return, for months now, seemed just over the horizon.
In short: Get Well Soon, Marcus Camby!
More later, live from Madison Square Garden, with whichever Warriors weren’t suspended for… this .
