Knicks GM Glen Grunwald and newly-acquired Andrea Bargnani held a conference call for reporters this morning. Here are the vital parts.
-Grunwald believes having Amar’e Stoudemire and Bargnani on the floor at the same time will create matchup problems for opponents. That may or may not be true (and heaven help the defense), but it indicates that the Knicks, at least now, are hoping to keep Carmelo Anthony at the power forward spot.
-Andrea Bargnani will be wearing 77 because 7 is, you know, taken.
-The Knicks plan to add a third point guard, but Iman Shumpert is also spending some time at the position in Summer League.
-The J.R. Smith re-signing is official.
-The Knicks are still looking into signing Kenyon Martin, and generally want to add another big man. Again, this is a reassuring indicator that they aren’t treating Bargnani as a big man in terms of his skills.
-The Knicks will keep a couple of roster spots open for training camp breakouts like the next Chris Copeland.
